I was talking to a friend and fellow practitioner on what to write in today's blog and she immediately said "Capacity." When a million things are being thrown at us from every direction, while already functioning from a state of constant overstimulation, it's hard to feel like we will ever catch up. Taking the time to be in observance of yourself can feel difficult when there is so much happening and so much to consider. Just as these tiny increments of distraction are being thrown at us, we must equally return them with a breath of mindfulness(*breathe in, breathe out). We mention locus of control in our last article about change, and focusing in on the moment we are in, not where we were or where we want to be, but here now. We have to match the frequency of our thoughts of now to every distraction by focusing back inward, finding your breath and opening the heart. Grounding in can be a matter of facing the shadows that come with our distractions, to alchemize and move forward with rapid change.
In last night's Gentle Yoga at Abundance Healing Center in the Village of Clarkston, MI we opened our practice with legs up the wall pose. This posture can provide deep relaxation, stress relief, knee pain reduction and tension or relief in the neck. When I get in to legs up the wall, I like to scoot my hip all the way to the edge of the wall and slowly bring my back to the mat and my feet up to the wall. You might even want to give your toes a few points and flexes to settle in. And breathe....
Reiki was integrated in to our group practice with my favorite Holy Fire® Reiki Experience which is a guided meditation at the start and the close of our movement practice. This experience is great for setting intention and helps us identify the flexibility of the mind through movement and breathing. We closed our practice with a visualization meditation and distance reiki.
Join us in Clarkston, MI next week.

All of this was a great open to our Lunar New Year. This year is the year of the wood snake. We will be clearing out and adapting forward this year. Shedding the skin of the past, and moving into a fresh mind/body. Learning reiki or starting a holistic yoga and reiki practice is a great way to ease the transition, and start to focus back in on what's most important, and that's you. It is said so often, that we cannot pour from an empty cup. We must be selfish at times to know we have the physical and mental capacity to show up for those how we want to.
The welcoming of this lunar new year is being energized by Aquarius, which in theme is free-spirited and eccentric. Self-reliance and independence will be the vibe, so staying active in your shadow work and finding the space for your physical and subtle body to expand is going to make a huge difference in terms of regulation through change this year. Authenticity is found in sacred spaces, take the time you need to grow.
Getting started with shadow work can feel overwhelming. Carl Jung and his ideas of the denied parts of the self, coupled with the ancient practice and belief of the subtle body, or the chakra system, can help each individual navigate learning which areas of the shadow may be showing up in healing process.
I am working on building a course that will help you learn more about the subtle body and how to intentionally heal and approach shadow work by integrating holistic yoga and reiki. Sign up for our newsletter to learn more about the course and other programs.
If any of this talk of building personal capacity is of interest to you this year, start a weekly holistic yoga and reiki practice and learning how to experience reiki is a great way to create a safe space for yourself to understand your shadows and your subtle body. We have monthly integration packages that gift you access to these classes online and in studio and provide you with exclusive deals on healing packages, training and workshops.
In final words, God knows your heart and your true capacity. He also knows how much you are carrying. Releasing the burdens of the past and looking forward to a brighter future requires an appreciation of the each moment we are in right now. It's the only way to get to tomorrow, is by being here in this moment. Think about how far you have come to get here in this place. Appreciate that, hold grace for yourself for any missteps and find gratitude in the smallest of things. Not for anyone else, but only for you. Appreciate the opportunity to be here in the moment you previously worked so hard to achieve. It might look different than how you imagined, and being in a learning phase or a transition is tough, but coming back inward and cherishing yourself first expands your capacity to provide the space and light you want to provide for others.
